I like it! They should do this in the Commons.

When Poland signed the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement yesterday, lawmakers from the left-wing Palikot’s Movement showed their dissatisfaction in an unusual way: by donning the Guy Fawkes masks popularized by the group Anonymous.

Great piece in the Telegraph. Shows the more human side of Gates.

Bill Gates sent final, heartfelt letter to Steve Jobs | The Verge
Bill Gates revealed the details of an intimate letter this week that he sent to Steve Jobs shortly before the Apple co-founder passed away in October. In an interview with The Telegraph, Gates says he learned of Jobs’ medical condition and wrote him a letter, one that Jobs later kept by his bed. “I told Steve about how he should feel great about what he had done and the company he had built,” said Gates, discussing Jobs’ children in the letter too.

I hate this!
When anyone blogs online there is always a common acknowledgement that you should reference your sources and not try and deceive users when you do by linking back to your own site. MG Seigler first pointed this out in a post a while ago when the then editors of the AOL owned Engadget were walking out due to restrictions being placed upon them. Engadget would not underline an outbound link, but would instead underline the link that sent people back to their own pages. Just ridiculous! Especially when I want to find the original source of the comment or article…
Now I see that Mashable are up to the same trick! In the screenshot above Mashable have made an outbound link with just one word - Twitter. The rest of the sentence - Update: Anonymous claims on - is a link back to their own site and background on Anonymous. Surely the link back to their own site should be on Anonymous on the following line? It’s a cheap trick that’s designed to make Mashable look better in it’s web stats and claims to advertisers on the site.
It would appear Mashable has gone to the dark side drawn in by the promise of money.

New look Vimeo

Massive fan of Vimeo and with these new design updates this fan is only going to get more passionate. Letting the video content lead with bigger videos on display in an almost Tumblr like fashion will make finding the latest creative content even easier.

Can’t wait for the roll out to begin.

Pinterest isn’t just for clothes & shoes
I got an invite to Pinterest some time ago (admittedly from a girl) because I wanted to check out what so many people had been talking about. Then I entered this world of shoes, women’s clothing and bathroom designs… I wondered where I had ended up!
It’s refreshing to see other uses of the site, such as the one demonstrated by The Next Web. Makes a change!
I can see more and more shops and retail outlets utilising the features of Pinterest to get a social media following around their brands and products as time goes on. For now though, in between all those shoes and dresses you can find the odd gem of tech/social media geekiness!

This picture keeps popping up at the minute and it pissed me off so much that I wrote a comment under my friends picture outlining my anger at the inaccuracy of the picture.
Let’s get it straight.
Julian Assange ‘acquired’ information ‘illegally’ about corporations and gave it to the world for free. The debate is about whether this information is in the public interest. That’s up to you to decide, but it’s pretty well documented laws were broken in order for this classified information to be leaked to the world… He’s the villain.
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook. A social networking website that you choose to sign up to. You know. Choice. You aren’t forced to create an account and put your information on there. You choose to add information to your profile. Update your status. Add information to the About section and populate your timeline. That information then becomes ‘target-able’ by corporations in some circumstances, but in many other circumstances by small businesses and others trying to get you to use their service. And where does this appear? In five small ads on the right of the page. I bet most of the time you ignore them too. The reason Zuck is the man of the year is because he changed the face of social networking, no make that communication, forever. He’s an innovator and an entrepreneur who has changed the world in a colossal way. That’s why he’s man of the year.
And the best bit. The person who posted this, posted it on Facebook. FAIL.
