About
I hate this!
When anyone blogs online there is always a common acknowledgement that you should reference your sources and not try and deceive users when you do by linking back to your own site. MG Seigler first pointed this out in a post a while ago when the then editors of the AOL owned Engadget were walking out due to restrictions being placed upon them. Engadget would not underline an outbound link, but would instead underline the link that sent people back to their own pages. Just ridiculous! Especially when I want to find the original source of the comment or article…
Now I see that Mashable are up to the same trick! In the screenshot above Mashable have made an outbound link with just one word - Twitter. The rest of the sentence - Update: Anonymous claims on - is a link back to their own site and background on Anonymous. Surely the link back to their own site should be on Anonymous on the following line? It’s a cheap trick that’s designed to make Mashable look better in it’s web stats and claims to advertisers on the site.
It would appear Mashable has gone to the dark side drawn in by the promise of money.
